CARIBOU FIRE &
AMBULANCE DEPARTMENT

                Inspections and Pre-Planning

Inspections:

The Caribou Fire Dept conducts fire inspection during the work week from 8:30am to 4:00pm for all the businesses within our coverage areas, which include Caribou, Woodland, New Sweden, Connor and Westmanland.  Many of the businesses require inspection reports on file for their insurance companies.

We will also inspect private homes including solid wood appliances, if requested by the owners.

During 2007, we inspected:

      60 Businesses

       2 Homes

We do not inspect chimneys.  We strongly feel that that needs to be done with a camera system to check for any cracks in the liners.  Most of the Chimney Sweeps now have cameras to do that.

Pre-Planning:

This department has been doing Pre-Planning for many years.  Pre-Planning is a sketch of a building showing power shut-offs, exits, location of hazardous materials, Outside fire concerns number of gallons per minute of water to control a fire in that building and the number of feet to the nearest hydrant or water supply.  This plan also considers best placement of apparatus should the building be involved in fire and if we would need special or extra equipment for one of our Mutual Aid Departments.

This information is posted in our dispatch computer and hopefully in the future, it will be available to the Officer in Charge at the scene with a mobile computer in our number one engine.
