CARIBOU FIRE &
AMBULANCE DEPARTMENT

                     Future Firefighter Program

The Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department proudly offers a Future Firefighter program. The program is available to any high school student in our coverage area and is offered when we have enough interested students.
It is designed to teach the basics of firefighting and the life of a Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician. It allows students who are thinking of a fire service career a hands on learning experience to see if it is something they are interested in. The ten to twelve week program
covers a wide variety of topics including: Firefighter safety, fire behavior, hoses and nozzles, self contained breathing apparatus, CPR certification, and ambulance operations just to name a few. The class meets weekly and courses are taught by members of the department.
Applications are available at the Caribou High School Guidance office or the Caribou Fire Department. Each student must submit an application, a
parental consent form, and obtain a medical clearance from a doctor. Students must maintain passing grades in school during the program. Following successfull completion of the class, all students are eligible to take a written test and if they pass may become *volunteer* members of the department. We have held several very successful classes and numerous students have either become paid call firefighters on our department or have gone on to obtain fire science degrees at college and are now full time firefighters.
The Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department strictly follows
Maine Department of Labor laws regarding what activities may be done by students under 18 years of age. A copy of which will be provided to all students and parents.

* The department can only maintain a certain number of volunteer members. The number of students placed on the volunteer roster is dependent on the number of openings.

Any questions please feel free to contact the Caribou Fire Department @ (207)493-4204 between the hours of 8am and 4pm.
